These nine artists demonstrate a wide range of themes, choice of materials, and impressive techniques. The 2- and 3-D work ranges from the 1960s to today.

During this, our 25^th Anniversary Year, Bartlett Woods is so very pleased to display the sometimes hidden talents of our Bartlett Woods friends and neighbors. Participating artists are Anne Cronin, Davene Fahy, Barbara Haupt, Constance, Kiermaier, June Kincade, Nat Lewis, Sally Nataluk, Shirley Stenberg, and Deb Beckwith Winship.

We are grateful to all for the loan of their work to include in this special exhibition.

First public event of the 25th anniversary year for the non-profit

After a long, pandemic-related hiatus, ART at BARLETT is back! An opening reception will be held Saturday, April 8th, from 2-5pm at Bartlett Woods, 20 Bartlett Drive in Rockland (located off Talbot Street between Broadway and Old County Road). The public is invited to attend.

Bartlett Woods Retirement Community is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2023. A signature event of the yearlong celebration is this new art exhibition, featuring twelve established Maine artists and curated by Cushing-based artist Pam Cabañas. Artists Lyn Asselta, Chris Augusta, Krisanne Baker, Phoebe Bly, Diane Dahlke, Pam Cabañas, Dan Corey, Maxwell Nolin, Linda Mahoney, Marnie Sinclair, Peter Walls, and Graham Walton have contributed paintings, drawings, photographs and bronze sculptures. The work is for sale with 100% of proceeds going to the artists. The exhibit may be viewed during regular business hours (8am – 4pm) now through June.

During the Opening Reception on Saturday April 8th, from 2 – 5 pm, enjoy the art, meet the artists, and sample delicious treats and spirits prepared by Bartlett Woods’ own professional chefs.

Currently featuring MidCoast painter Carol Sloane’s natural vistas of coastlines, islands and woodlands.

On view are 29 works in the exhibit at Bartlett Woods Retirement Community. Each year the nonprofit residential apartment house, located at 20 Bartlett Drive, just off Talbot Avenue in Rockland, hosts exhibitions of diverse works of art by local talent. Curated by Pam Cabanas, the current show features evocative scenes masterfully rendered in oil paint and oil sticks on 140 lb watercolor paper, panel and canvas.

“I paint to evoke the passage of time, the movement of light, the joys and insights of the shifting relationships of the spaces that I see. My studies of the world around me began as quite literal landscapes, but as I have developed my conceptual techniques, I have expanded my horizons to wider range of subject matter.”

Titles like Matinicus Seascape, Gull Cove Study, Monhegan Morning Light, and Sprague Road Uphill are suggestive of the quiet places and spaces that Carol seeks to capture. Stand-alone works, as well as multi-part series, allow for her personal interpretation of our iconic Maine coast scenery.

At carolsloanemaine.com, one learns of her extensive exhibition history in one-person and group shows, from the Maine Jewish Museum and the Portland Museum, to Bowdoin College and Rockland’s own CMCA, Yvette Torres and Jonathan Frost Galleries.

Special Pre-1^st Friday Art Talk about Art at Bartlett Woods 2019

(Rockland ME) — Bartlett Woods Retirement Community invites the public to a free PRE – ART WALK EVENT. Art fans can begin the Rockland First Friday Art Walk viewing the Midcoast Legacies in Art Exhibition, on view at Bartlett Woods, 20 Bartlett Drive (just off Talbot Ave, west of Broadway) from 3 -5 pm on Friday, June 7th. The event is free and open to the public.

Mid Coast Legacies in Art includes over 30 works (2D and 3D) by well-known local artists and the generations of their creative families. Curator Pam Cabañas will give a talk and tour of the show at 3:30pm.

“Pam has been our curator for years, and each beautiful exhibition has focused on local talent from our region,” confirmed Mary Eads, Executive Director at Bartlett Woods. “This show is particularly meaningful, as it focuses on families of artists living and working nearby, many of whom are icons of Maine Contemporary Art. We hope First Friday fans will start their afternoon with us, enjoy Pam’s talk, savor some refreshments, and appreciate an intimate view of life and art, Midcoast style.”

On Saturday, March 2nd we hosted our 7th annual Art at Bartlett Art Reception. Bartlett Woods is pleased to present Mid Coast Legacies in Art curated by artist Pam Cabanas. The exhibit looks absolutely beautiful and the artists were very pleased says Mary Eads, Executive Director at Bartlett Woods.

The gallery styled showing hosts individual family exhibits featuring family bio with pictures of each artist. There was a lot of excitement in the air, many guests commented that they had never seen an exhibit of this kind and thought it was a really wonderful idea. The stories are remarkable and so interesting to read. We had about 130 attendees which included the artists, and our friends from the community. Chef Aaron offered multiple delicious small appetizers. The mini lobster rolls, scallops with homemade bacon jam, and the crab stuffed cherry tomatoes where among the favorites. Everyone enjoyed music by the Extension Chord, a teenage jazz trio from Camden.
The exhibit is open during regular business hours through June 2019. Everyone is welcome to stop by and see this stunning show. Friends of Rockland Public Library, Rockland Public Library and Bartlett Woods Retirement Community present a talk by astrophotographer Mike Taylor on Thursday, August 30 at 6:30 PM in the Library’s Community Room.

Taylor will show many of his photographs and discuss best techniques for photographing the night sky. He will discuss how astrophotography is different from Landscape Astrophotography, and where the Milky Way is in the sky and how it moves through the night and through the seasons. He will also spend some time talking about the Northern Lights in the same regard – how to track them, how to know when there will be a display, and how they look at Maine’s latitude compared to places like Iceland, Norway. Additionally, he will explain a little bit about processing night photos and talk about the logistics and equipment involved in capturing and processing time lapse footage.

Taylor Photography’s landscape astrophotography and scenic/nature images & articles have been featured on NASA’s Astronomy Picture Of The Day, Huffington Post, The Weather Channel, NBC News, Viral Nova, Discovery.com, Mashable.com, Down East magazine, UNILAD, Outdoor Photography Magazine, Yahoo! News, Space.com, Utah.com, Earthsky.org, Spaceweather.com, Solarham.net, and multiple other science websites and social media pages. Mike is also a contributing member of the International Dark-Sky Association and he has been working in conjunction with their organization to help raise public awareness of artificial light pollution and its negative effects on human health, wildlife, safety and energy waste.

After the talk, treats will be available, compliments of Bartlett Woods.

Opening Reception for Maine Artists, Pam Cabañas, Alison Hill, Björn Runquist, Anne Cronin and Deborah Winship.

Bartlett Woods Retirement Community proudly presents our 6^th annual “Art at Bartlett Woods” artist exhibition and reception. This year we showcase five wonderful Maine artists Pam Cabanas, Alison Hill, and Björn Runquist as well as two of our resident artists, Anne Cronin and Deborah Winship.

Pam Cabanas, artist and curator of the exhibition, displays her evocative work in both pastel and ink wash. Alison Hill, a year round resident of Monhegan, presents island landscapes and portraits, boldly chronicling island life. Bjorn Runquist’s sensitve and beautifully executed works explore scenes of the midcoast, honoring the Maine of today and yesterday. This year, we are thrilled to present the work of two local artists, Deborah Winship and Anne Cronin who live and continue to paint at Bartlett Woods. The exhibition is intended for the pleasure of both our residents and the general public. The exhibit will be open for public viewing daily during regular business hours through June 2018.

The Opening Reception will be held from 2:00 to 5:00pm on Saturday February 24, 2018 at Bartle tt Woods Retirement Community, 20 Bartlett Drive, Rockland. The public is invited to join the artists and the Bartlett Woods community for this very special event. Light refreshments will be served.
