Residents of Bartlett Woods enjoyed a special evening of art, conversation, and community on Friday, June 5, when they attended the opening reception for Fire and Ice, a new exhibition by Maine artist Sarah Faragher at The Landing Gallery in downtown Rockland. The exhibition opened as part of Rockland’s popular First Friday Art Walk and features Faragher’s newest paintings inspired by Maine’s coastal landscape.
The outing was made possible through the generous invitation of Roberta Baumann, a Bartlett Woods Board Member, accomplished fine arts photographer, and co-director of The Landing Gallery. Residents were transported from Bartlett Woods to the gallery, where they were welcomed for a memorable and highly personal experience.
Baumann provided residents with a private tour of the gallery, offering an in-depth discussion of her own remarkable photographic works that were also on display. Her insights into the creative process, composition, and inspiration behind her images gave residents a unique opportunity to engage directly with a professional artist and photographer.
In addition to sharing her own work, Baumann personally introduced residents to featured artist Sarah Faragher, creating opportunities for meaningful conversation about the paintings in Fire and Ice. Residents enjoyed learning about Faragher’s artistic techniques, inspirations, and the stories behind many of the pieces featured in the exhibition, and the artist, Sarah Faragher, gifted the Bartlett Woods library with a copy of her memoir, Autobiography of an Island. The opportunity to speak directly with the artist added a special dimension to the evening and deepened residents’ appreciation for the artwork on display.
For many residents, the event offered more than an opportunity to view exceptional art. It was a chance to connect with artists, engage in thoughtful discussion, and experience the vibrant cultural life of the Midcoast community.
